Unexpected error 80042F43” Loading Metadata File Extracted From Hyperion Financial Management Applications After Upgrading Pre-System 9 Application to 11.1.1.0.00

  Modified 16-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 11.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Metadata files extracted after schema upgrade cannot be loaded without manually editing the file to remove invalid characters for FdmAppName attribute under AppSettings. Attempting to load file results in “Unexpected error 80042F43” error.

Changes

Upgraded application from a pre-System 9 release to 11.1.1.0.00 release.

Cause

This issue is caused by an uninitialized variable in the HFM Schema Upgrade utility which is reported in an Internal defect 7596025.

Solution

This issue can be resolved by manually editing the metadata load file and removing the invalid characters in the FdmAppName attribute or remove the invalid element directly beneath the FdmAppName attribute. The file can then be loaded without producing an error.

To edit and correct this file:

  1. Open metadata file.
  2. Find the AppSettings elements.
  3. Find the FdmAppName attribute and verify the FDM application name is properly listed. If FDM is not used then the entry should be empty like <at Name="FdmAppName"><at name="FdmAppName">.
  4. Verify any entries after FdmAppName are valid XML attributes.
