Error "Error loading the xml document: line 1" When Launching Intercompany Transaction Report

  Modified 09-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.2.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to launch a large Intercompany Transaction report (System Report from the Intercompany Transaction module of Oracle's Hyperion System 9 Financial Management or Oracle EPM System Fusion Edition Financial Management  (FM), if the report is too large for the current settings of the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web server, it may fail to be transmitted correctly and the above error message may occur.

It may be seen that by reducing the number of entities used to produce the report, or by selecting the "Suppress Details" option, the report is successfully produced.   However, a user may require the report to be produced in all expected circumstances and be looking for another solution.

Cause

The cause of the problem is the resulting report is too big to be transferred by the web server (IIS).

The response buffer size set in the FM Server & Web Config utility is limiting the size of file that can be transferred.

Solution

To resolve the issue, the Response Buffer Size (in bytes) setting of the HFM web component must be increased

Solution for Hyperion Financial Management 9.3.1 release and earlier:

this setting can be found in the FM Server & Web Configuration utility - "Web Server" tab.

To launch the this utility on the FM web servers (where IIS is installed) one should look under Start -> Programs -> Hyperion -> Financial Management -> Server and Web Configuration.

The setting must be set high enough for the size of output file the user would expect to produce. To find an exact number of bytes Google Calculator features can be used for example the Google query "20 MB to bytes" will give an answer of 20971520 bytes.    This should be entered in the Utility, and then the setting saved by clicking "Apply" and then "OK".

Solution for EPM System Fusion Edition releases:

On EPM System Fusion Edition versions of Financial Management (11.1.1.x), the web server settings are included inside the EPM Configurator configuration utility.   The EPM Configurator should be run on each web server, the Financial Management product selected from the menu and the Response Buffer Size similarly adjusted.   Follow the process to completion by clicking "Next" at each screen until a confirmation appears that the change has been successful.

Note that these changes should be made at a time when no users are connected to the FM web server on which the changes are being made. This is because on clicking "Apply" the FM web components will be re-initialised and all active web sessions will be terminated. The users will have to log in once more to the BI+ workspace and FM.
