Logging on to a Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Application With a Password Set Gives Error "Invalid Password for user USERNAME on Application APPNAME"

  Modified 20-SEP-2010     Type PROBLEM

Applies to:

Hyperion Enterprise - Version: 6.5.0.0.00 to 6.5.1.0.00 - Release: 6.5 to 6.5
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A previously created application  which has a password set, is not accessible from a machine experiencing this fault. The error message 'Invalid Password for user USERNAME on application APPNAME' appears when you try to log on via Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Client. The password being entered is correct.

Non affected machines allow access to the same application with the correct password.

A knock on affect of this issue is that the application cannot be accessed via Oracle Smartview or Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Web if the affected machine is an HEWeb Server.

Changes

The AES.DLL file has been removed from the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Installation folder.

Cause

This issue is be caused by the AES.DLL file not being present on the machine running Enterprise.

Solution

The solution is to replace the AES.DLL file which has been deleted from the Enterprise Installation folder.

This can be achieved by one of the following methods:

1. Repair of the installation by running the original SETUP.EXE supplied with the software and choosing the REPAIR OPTION.
2. Re-installation of Enterprise
3. Copying the AES.DLL from a back-up or another machine with the same Enterprise version installed

AES stands for Advanced Encryption Standard also famously known as Rijndael after its developers

This algorithm is specifically used in Hyperion Enterprise for Password Encryption and Decryption.
This DLL is not attached with any File Version, as it is a pure C DLL with no GUI components there-in
