HfmCopyApplication Utility Advanced Filter Options Cause Data Loss in Target Application

  Modified 24-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Since 11.1.1.0 releases of HFM the HFMCopyApplication.exe (HFM Copy Application Utility) has included new "Advanced" options for the Copy process.

However, it has been seen that these features do not necessarily result in a good copy of the original application in the target location.

In particular enabling the features "Filter Invalid Data Records" and "Filter Zero value data Records" in some versions of the HFMCopyApplication can result in valid data missing from the target application (the result of the copy attempt).

Cause

There are some product issues in the code of the Copy Application Utility (HfmCopyApplication.exe) in some earlier releases.

Solution

Customers are reminded they should check the available Service Packs and Service Fixes for HFM product regularly and always replace the Copy Application Utility with the latest available version.

As of January 2010 the latest available Copy Application Utility can be found in HFM Service Fix 11.1.1.3.21 (Oracle  Patch 9243044) and this is the version that should be used with all installed versions of Financial Management.   The Copy Application Utility is always backwards compatible with previous versions.

The Service Fix version, and the version of the utility that will be provided in the upcoming 11.1.2 release of HFM, contain fixes to this code issue and can be used safely with these Advanced "Filter Invalid" features.
