Symptoms

Receiving "Schema Update Failed" message when attmpeting to run schema update utility on an FDM Application.  Customer is receiving "Schema Update Failed" error when attempting to run the schema update utility on an FDM Application to upgrade the application to a newer schema level.

Cause

Microsoft Excel was not installed on FDM Application Server(s)  Microsoft Excel is required for Schema Update to run successfully and is noted in the FDM Administration Guide.

Also it is noted that there should be no add-ins enabled in Excel.  This includes Smartview and Retrieve for HFM/Essbase.

Solution

Install Microsoft Excel on each FDM Application Server and ensure that there are no 3rd party or additional addins enabled.
