Goal

How to migrate a Financial Data Quality Management (FDM) application from one environment to another environment.

Solution

There are two methods that can be used to migrate an FDM application from one environment to another.

1) Migrate only the metadata/mapping from one environment to another

To perform this process, the FDM Workbench Client is used to export the metadata from the source environment and the workbench in the target environment would be used to import the metadata.

a) From the source environment choose File/Export and give the export file a name
b) In the Metadata screen click the "Select All" button and click on the "options" tab
c) Check the "Export Maps with Locations" check box and click OK.

This will generate the metadata export file to import in the production environment

d) Login to the new application the production environment and choose File/Import
e) Select the export file generated from the development environment and click Open
f) Click Select All and click on the Options tab. Check the "Import Maps with Locations" check box and click OK

This will import all metadata and mapping into the new application.

2) Copy the Application including all metadata/data.

To perform this process, the FDM Database and application folder structure would be copied from the source environment and put in place in the target environment. The <add>option would then be used in the workbench to add the FDM application following the copy.

a) In the FDM Development Environment launch the workbench client
b) Choose "Add Application" <add>and login with a valid user
c) Highlight the application that will be moved to Production and click "Modify"
d) The first tab will display the application path (\\servername\share\appname). You will need to copy the application folder over to the production environment.
e) Click on the database tab and this will display the current FDM Database associated with the application. This database would need to be copied to the production environment.
f) In the production environment launch the FDM Workbench Client and choose "Add Application" <add>and login.
g) Click the "Add" button and you will be prompted to enter the information for the application. In this screen you will enter the name of the copied application and the application path to the copied folder
h) Click on the Database tab and enter the database details for the copied database. (DB Server, uid/pwd, DB name) and click OK

Once the application has been added, upon login to the application via the workbench client, the machine profiles will need to be updated to reflect the new environment FDM application server names.
