Symptoms

Clicking the "Export to Excel" icon on the import screen returns the following error message:
Export to excel
Error: File could not be opened.

The following information is written to the user error log:

Cause

This error message indicates that either:
a) Smart View is installed on the FDM application server within Excel which will cause this issue.
b) The Essbase Spreadsheet Add-In is registered within Excel on the FDM application server.
c) Also, if any other Excel Add Ins (possibly non-Hyperion) is installed.

Discovered this issue is being caused due to the Performance Point Excel Add In being installed within Excel on the FDM application server.

Solution

A) Uninstall the Performance Point Excel Add In within Excel on the FDM application server
B) Re-run the "Export to Excel" process from the import screen in FDM.
