Using Smart View 11.1.1.3 To Connect To Planning 9.3.1 [ID 1083386.1]

Goal

How can we use the Smart View 11.1.1.3 client to connect both to Planning 11.1.1.3 and to an older Planning 9.3.1 system?

Solution
There are two ways that the Smart View 11.1.1.3 client can make a connection to a 9.3.1 Planning application:

1. Connect directly to Planning, which does not depend on there being an available APS provider. This allows the user to open forms and run Business Rules. It does not allow for ad hoc analysis. If you do not require the ad hoc functionality then you can simply connect to the Planning 9.3.1 application(s) by defining the following URL provider in Smart View:
   
   
   http://hostname:8300/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
   
   To use a URL provider change the view in Smart View from "Common Provider" to "Independent Provider Connections" and then Add a "URL Provider" and enter the URL above, where "hostname" is the name of your 9.3.1 Planning server. Note that you will see a message warning you that you are connecting to an older version of Planning, but that this is just an informational message.
   
   
2. Connect via APS. This option allows the Smart View client to connect to the Essbase cube(s) of the Planning application, and perform ad hoc analysis similar to what can be done with the Essbase add-in for Excel. In effect you are connecting to the Planning application as though it were an Essbase application.
   
   You cannot connect Smart View 11.1.1.3 to APS 9.3.1. However, if you require ad hoc analysis capabilities you can work around this problem by connecting to the 9.3.1 Essbase server via APS 11.1.1.3. In EAS 11.1.1.3 right-click on the Essbase Servers node and Add your 9.3.1 Essbase server. Now that your 9.3.1 Essbase server appears in the list it can be used by APS 11.1.1.3. In Smart View 11.1.1.3 you can now add the Essbase 9.3.1 server to the list and connect to it.
