Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.1.00<max_ver> and later [Release: 9.3 and later ]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
In a WDEF containing "CellText:1" in the script, the user cannot enter or display CellText after applying Patch 7308286 (HFM 9.3.1.1 Service Pack):
- In Internet Explorer, the value is not displayed, and when you try to enter a new value you will get an error "Invalid entry" unless you use a numeric value; on submit, you will get an error.
- In Firefox, the value is not displayed. if you enter a new one, on submit it will be hidden.
Changes
Applying HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 1 Patch 7308286 has been seen to cause this behaviour due to an issue in the product code.
Cause
An HFM application server installed on a different machine as the HFM Web component will miss a registry key that is required by internal application changes introduced in HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 1 Patch 7308286.
Solution
There are two different ways of solving this issue:
Recommended solution: install latest Service Pack
The best way to deal with this issue is to apply the latest available Service Pack for HFM. This is currently HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 4 Patch 8259783. This will resolve the issue and introduce several additional bugfixes and improvements, including critical updates. This is the recommended course of action.
Workaround: create a blank registry key called "Web"
As a temporary measure before the installation of another Service Pack, you can implement the following workaround.
Perform the following procedure on the HFM appserver:
- Open the Windows Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit)
- Expand the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management
- right-click on "Hyperion Financial Management" -> New -> Key
- call the new key "Web"
- restart the application server
However, all HFM 9.3.1 customers are reminded of the importance of installing Service Pack 4, as well as reviewing the available Service Fixes that may have been released since the Service Pack. There are some known critical code issues that can cause metadata and application data corruption and incorrect data calculations in 9.3.1 releases before Service Pack 4. Please review Patch 8259783 and make a strategy to install it at the soonest possible oppurtunity.
