When Exporting a Grid in FDM to Excel Receive "ActiveX component can't create object"

  Modified 06-JUL-2010     Type PROBLEM
Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management - Version: 8.0.5.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 8.0 to 11.1

Generic Windows

Symptoms

When clicking the "Export to Excel" icon within the mapping table in FDM, the Export pop up window appears and returns with the error message "Active X Component Can't Create Object".

Cause

There are multiple possible causes of this error message:

1) Microsoft Excel is not installed on each FDM Application Server in the environment

2) Microsoft Excel has not been opened and ran when logged into the FDM Application Server as the service account.

Solution

To resolve this issue Microsoft Excel will need to be installed on each FDM application server in the environment, if it has not been already.  Once it has been installed, it should be opened under the FDM Service account and launched one time to allow for the defaults to be set.
