Hyperion Enterprise Integration With FDM 11.1.2 Fails on Web

  Modified 13-SEP-2010     Type PROBLEM

Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management - Version: 11.1.2.0.00<max_ver> and later   [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Enterprise Adapter Returns "Unable to Create Active X Control"
In FDM Workbench, under Integration settings for the Hyperion Enterprise adapter, the Test connection button returns a successful connection to Enterprise. The NameCat tab will successfully allow for setting the base level entity and category.  When clicking on the Dimension Cache Tab and attempting to update the Dim cache the error message

-2147217887 Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value

In FDM Web selecting activities > maps and attempting to browse for a target member returns "ActiveX component can't create object: 'upsHE6xG4F.clsHypeWindow' At Line: 51"

Cause

In order for FDM to establish a connection with Hyperion Enterprise, it first launches the connect action contained within the HE6xG4F adapter, the connect action first looks for a machine profile within the adapter that matches the NETBios name of the FDM application server that the connection is occurring on, it then attempts to launch an instance of the Adapter DCOM object on the machine referenced in the "Target machine" field of the machine profile.  Currently this value is the Enterprise Server name and not the FDM application server name where the adapter .exe is registered.  When the process attempts to establish an instance of the com object it fails because the adapter has not been registered on the Enterprise Server, but is registered on the FDM application server.

Solution

Solution Delivered
A) Login to the FDM application using the workbench client
B) Expand Target System Adapters > HE6x-G4-F > Machine Profiles
C) Open the current machine profile
D) Update the target machine field to the FDM Application server and click OK to save the change
